Interiors writer and designer, Cate St Hill, has written about Cosmolite and Stone Italiana following a press trip to Stone Italiana’s manufacturing site in Zimella during MarmoMac.
Cate St Hill writes about Cosmolite
Every September, the city of Verona is overtaken by visitors from all over the globe and not just tourists visiting Verona to see Juliet’s balcony. This is a specialist group of visitors who work in the many sectors related to the processing and use of stone and manmade hard surfaces such as porcelain, quartz and sintered materials. They have come to Verona to see the trade show called MarmoMac hosted in the heart of the city. (Just in case you didn’t know, Verona is the global central hub for stone processing. Materials from all over the world including India, Brail and Turkey – are transported to and processed in Verona before being distributed worldwide.)
One very special guest at Stone Italiana this year during MarmoMac was Cate St Hill, an interiors writer, stylist and designer based in London. Cate writes for many leading interior design and home-related publications and writes her own award-winning blog at https://catesthill.com/. On top of this, she helps homeowners to create interiors that are simple, timeless and built to last. In her own words, Cate is fascinated by “how our homes can become our inner sanctuaries, soothing our souls and uplifting our wellbeing.” We knew we had to invite her to visit Stone Italiana to see the first exclusive teaser of a new collection within their 100% recycled Cosmolite range.
On arrival in Verona, a quick coffee stop was required at Eataly where we got the chance to see Stone Italiana’s Cosmolite worktops on all the kitchens in Eataly’s cooking school. Several colourways from the Cosmo and Planet ranges were selected for the cooking school which opened in Oct 2022.
After a drive from Verona to Zimella, Cate was taken on a tour of Stone Italiana’s manufacturing plants following the process from design and manufacturing to final slab. It was here that Cate got to see the laboratory where bespoke surfaces are made for companies and brands all over the world, and where all the new surfaces are devised before being manufactured.
Paola Della Valle kindly spent time with Cate discussing the latest Stone Italiana Sustainability Report and answering questions about the company’s motivations behind the invention of Cosmolite – their 100% recycled, low-silica slab material.
In the large logistics building, where all the slabs cool and dry on racks before being dispatched, Stone Italiana proudly showed Cate their new Cosmolite collection. Called Supernova, the collection includes the palest creams, super whites and cloudy whites, with or without veins. That evening, the founder of Stone Italiana – Mr Della Valle – welcomed a large number of Stone Italiana customers from all over the world at a sophisticated white themed drinks reception and dinner in the same hall.
