Stone Italiana at Milan Design Week 2024

As the world of design converges on Milan for the Milan Design week, Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone 2024, visitors will feel the subtle influence of Stone Italiana’s innovation across the city and exhibition.

Stone Italiana materials will be hard at work in a wide variety of locations across this prestigious city-wide event, permeating every facet of design from kitchens and bathrooms to creative installations and fashion.

Though they may not know it, many of the 300,000+ visitors will lean on, sit on, walk over, rest their drinks and food on, and examine creative fashion against the backdrop of Stone Italiana’s materials – in particular their 100% recycled material Cosmolite®.

“Caravanserraglio”: Lorenzo Palmeri for Stone Italiana

As part of INTERNI Cross Vision, a prestigious event marking INTERNI magazine’s 70th anniversary, Cosmolite® will be used to clad ‘Caravanserraglio’, an installation designed by architect L orenzo Palmeri to represent a place for people to pause and come together. The event is the location for a large number of thought-provoking installations by globally recognised architects and designers such as Kengo Kuma, Patricia Urquiola, Piero Lissoni and Tom Dixon. This event will be a place of exchange, a melting pot of ideas and heritages and it is well worth a visit.

The Caravanserraglio installation is made with Cosmolite® surfaces: the vertical surfaces feature the Stargreen shade from the K-Star collection, and the flooring is all DNA Urbano, the collection that most fully expresses Stone Italiana’s green ethos. DNA Urbano tiles are made from street sweepings collected by Milan’s street cleaners. Recovered materials, when processed like this, become a new material with a new identity – a New Materia, leading to the inception of a circular economy and lowering the cost of disposing of materials usually considered as debris.

DNA Urbano tiles made from the street sweepings of Milan will be used for the floors of the Caravanserraglio installation at Milan Design Week 2024. DNA Urbano tiles were used at the Brera Botanical Gardens outdoor teaching rooms above.

Caravanserraglio will be in the Portico of the main Courtyard of Honor. The closest metro stops are M1 Duomo and M3 Missori.

“The Designer’s Jacket”, the brainchild of Lorenzo Palmeri and Mario Scairato at Galleria Lorenzelli

Eleven designers making a foray into the world of fashion with eleven jackets exhibited as veritable works of art: that’s the concept behind ‘The Designer’s Jacket’. The exhibition is being held in the long-established and highly prestigious Lorenzelli Arte gallery in Milan, which is hosting a design project for the very first time.

The exhibition is a nod to the material used to make the jackets, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibre produced by Lenzing. It’s an environmentally friendly, natural-origin fibre extracted from eucalyptus trees, turned into fabric through a process which regenerates the wood pulp. Using Cosmolite® as the only material for the backdrop was the ‘natural’ choice, and in line with the spirit of sustainability that the designers wanted to express.

The mearest metro stop to Lorenzelli Arte is Porta Venezia.
